Showhouse Ecological Building Systems
The new showhouse of Ecological Building Systems in Athboy.
It will display a huge range of materials and detailed solutions inside and outside of the building such as airtightness, windtightness, service cavity insulation, external insulation, window details, masonry details, roof insulation as well as a demonstration unit of the Wincon quality control unit.

Passive House, Co. Laois
A to be certified passive house in Co. Laois.
Single leaf construction with 300mm external wall insulation.
180m² roof area with 60mm Gutex Ultratherm woodfibre insulation, 270mm Daemmstatt cellulose insulation and pro clima Intello airtightness system installed.
Airtightness target: 0.6 ACH
A preliminary test showed a result of 0.32 ACH

ISOQUICK foundations gives the house warm feet

ISOQUICK foundation has been installed to give the house a warm and coldbridge free base
Roof with taped Solitex and first layer of battens
The roof.
pro clima Solitex Plus roof membrane taped at the overlaps for windtightness and counterbattened to create the ventilation zone. Not visible the breathable Panalvent boards underneath for racking strength
Passive House Display “EcoWall”
The Passive House display “EcoWall” is based on a design by Ecological Building Systems.
The wall build up from inside out:
- Sasmox board
- service cavity with Thermo Hemp insulation
- Intello airtight system
- 9″ studs filled with Daemmstatt cellulose / 9″ rafters filled with Thermo Hemp insulation
- Panelvent diffusionopen board for racking strength
- 80mm Gutex Ultratherm woodfibre board / insulation
- choice of ventilated facade or plaster straight onto the Gutex
I have build the units in different variations. They can be seen at the showroom of Ecological Building Systems and the Passive House Academy ( link to the PHA here ) as well as in many hardware shops.
pro clima Airtight Installation DVD
Ecological Building Systems have launched their own Airtight Installation DVD – with Roman from clioma house as the installer!
The DVD was filmed on one of clíoma house`s projects and guides you through the range of pro clima airtightness products showing the right installation and details for various materials.

The DVD was filmed on location at a low energy build in County Wicklow, Ireland and features trained and approved pro clima installer, Roman Sypura of Clioma House. With the initial blower door confirming the airtightness of the structure to be an astonishing Q50 of 0.19m³/hr/m² it proved the ideal project to film. The result is one of the best known to Ecological Building Systems who have been sole agents of the pro clima system in Ireland and the UK for over ten years.

Passive House Co. Kerry
The house from the south
The first to be certified Passive House in Co. Kerry.
Timberframe construction with the following wall build up:
- Cement board as weathershield
- ventilated cavity
- 220mm timberstuds
- filled with 220mm Daemmstatt cellulose
- pro clima Intello airtightness system
- 2″ service cavity filled with Thermo Hemp insulation

The roof is insulated on ceiling level with nominal 450mm open blown cellulose (510mm Daemmstatt cellulose installed allowing for settlement as per manufactorers instruction).
Internal walls are filled with 90mm cellulose for soundproofing.
The preliminary airtight test came in at an excellent 0.36 airchanges/hour.
After installation of the cellulose
Excellent detailing: The external walls and insulation continue to finished level of the attic insulation, leaving no coldbridging!
clíoma house carried out the following work:
- consultancy on cellulose installation
- Installation of 120m² Daemmstatt cellulose to the external walls at a thickness of 220mm
- Installation of 127m² Daemmstatt cellulose to the internal walls at athickness of 90mm
- Installation of 181m² Daemmstatt cellulose in the attic at a thickness of 510mm (nominal 450mm)
- Minor airtightness work like sealing pipe penetrations
